The international meeting “Advanced Batteries and Accumulators,” No. 13 (held August 26th to 30th, 2012 in Czech Republic) was yet another in a series of meetings organized by the Department of Electrotechnology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, Brno University of Technology. This institute has organized regular meetings on modern batteries for more than 30 years. Thirteen years ago, the organizers decided to transform them to meetings oriented towards an international forum and the name ABA was applied for them. This acronym had the verbal meaning “Advanced Batteries and Accumulators.” In recent years the letter “F” was added; its meaning referring to “Fuel cells” and the acronym as used at present is ABAF. With the enlarged scope the ABAF meetings should cover most interesting parts of battery research and of the material development for them.
